Cape May Exit Zero Jazz Festival

Cape May, NJ – The 6th Spring Edition of the Exit Zero Jazz Festival kicks off in Cape May, NJ, April 12-14, 2019. More than 50+ sets of world-class music will be presented over the Festival weekend on two Festival concert stages and in the clubs, and streets of Cape May. Festival Producer Michael Kline has crafted a world-class lineup of Grammy Winners, NEA Jazz Masters, and an eclectic mix of many different genres of world-class music.

The Exit Zero Jazz Festival headliners count off Friday, April 12thon the It’s A Breeze / Hawk Haven Vineyard Stage in Cape May Convention Hall with the internationally acclaimed Preservation Hall Jazz Band, National Medal of Arts recipient of the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence. A New Orleans institution for more than 50 years, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues to spread joy around the world with their special brand of Crescent City classics and an expanded scope that includes original material and crossover tunes cowritten by the likes of TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek and Semitonic’s Dan Wilson. Preservation Hall Jazz Band have appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” played at Coachella alongside Arcade Fire and guested on the Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways. But while they may have become a more open-minded and stylistically adventurous ensemble, these beloved ambassadors of the Crescent City remain firmly committed to playing traditional favorites. Saturday, April 13th , Exit Zero Jazz presents keyboard virtuoso, Down Beat Hall of Famer, NEA Jazz Master and 22-time Grammy-winning jazz legend Chick Corea. Chick comes to the Exit Zero Jazz Festival for the first time with the Chick Corea Trilogy, featuring bass great Christian McBride and drummer extraordinaire Brian Blade. A tirelessly creative spirit and remarkably prolific composer whose artistic output over five decades is simply staggering, Corea has covered every kind of music from straight ahead to avant-garde, bebop to fusion, children’s songs to chamber music, along with some far-reaching forays into symphonic works. And at age 77, he continues to forge ahead, continually reinventing himself in the process. “My mission is to bring the joy of creating everywhere I can,” he has said. “When I can bring some pleasure I become happy myself.” The Exit Zero Jazz Festival is a multi-venue festival with concerts staged in Schmidtchen Theater on the Music Connects Stage powered by Atlantic City Electric, and featured concerts in Cape May Convention Hall on the It’s a Breeze & Hawk Haven Vineyard Stage.

In addition to the Festival headline concerts, Exit Zero Jazz presents a full weekend schedule in the bars and restaurants of Cape May. The Cape May Brewing Company Hops Pass Club Series features a wide array of music that encourages fest- goers to enjoy many different genres of music throughout the weekend, all within walking distance of Cape May Convention Hall and many Cape May hotels. Exit Zero Jazz Festival is produced by Spy Boy Productions. Helmed by Michael Kline, who also produces the Rootstock Summer Concert Series at Hawk Haven Winery and the Cape May Convention Hall Summer Series, Kline celebrated many summers in Cape May and returned in 2005 from New Orleans. He shares his thoughts about presenting the Festival in Cape May: “We want to offer not only a world-class cultural experience in Cape May, but also a Festival with a small town musical community feel to it, where people of all ages are able to celebrate the spirit and creative energy the Festival generates.” Ticket Information.
